Benefits of video calls

There are several benefits to being able to meet your therapist through video. For example, you do not have to go to a clinic every time, which can save you both time and energy. It can also be easier to find a time that suits you despite a hectic schedule, as you do not have to count in travel time.

Above all, we at Ahum want to emphasize that conversations over video open up the possibility for you to find the right therapist, regardless of where you or the therapist are located. The choice of therapist thus no longer needs to be based on who is geographically closest to you, but rather on how well a therapist's skills and experience are suitable to help you.

This is one of the reasons why our founders started Ahum. Ahum helps you to find the right therapist with the help of a matching tool. The therapists suggested are based on your needs and problem areas.

What is it like to meet a therapist over video?

But what is it really like to meet a therapist through video? Maybe you are worried that the relationship between you and the therapist will not be as good when you do not meet in person? Or that the sense of security in the conversation is affected by the fact that you only see each other over a screen?

In the spring of 2021, a comprehensive research study was published that examined the effects of psychotherapy via video compared to face-to-face sessions. The results from the research show that the treatment effect doesn’t differ depending on if the therapy takes place via video or face-to-face sessions. Ahums licensed psychologist and licensed psychotherapist Charlotte Ulfsparre has written more about this, where she describes common worries and gives tips on what to think about before your first video call. You can read Charlotte's blog post here (currently only available in Swedish).

Do you want to meet a therapist face-to-face? Of course it is also possible to book via Ahum. You can browse all our therapists here.
